Registered Apprenticeship Programs are gaining traction across the nation. This is thanks to a federal push and eagerness among employers either to launch a program or improve an existing one.

RADD Training, LLC has worked with dozens of employers and intermediaries, primarily in the manufacturing industry. Our job is to design and develop customized Registered Apprenticeship Programs recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor. These programs benefit employers because they help generate a more skilled and sustainable workforce. Additionally, they qualify for federal funding and state grant opportunities as well as tax incentives.

“Registered Apprenticeship Programs are for small, medium, and large employers, and we can build it from an existing training program. This is not a ‘let’s reinvent the wheel’ type of strategy,” said Rebecca Daurio, owner and president of RADD Training. She added that the requirements are flexible and can be customized to fit employer needs.

The Department of Labor reports that more than 700,000 apprentices were hired since the start of 2017. These employees enjoy a competitive wage, a combination of on-the-job learning and related classroom instruction, and portable, nationally-recognized credentials.

All of this translates to a “win” for employers, a “win” for apprentices, and a “win” for the American economy. And yet, apprenticeship programs are “underutilized.” That is according to the final report developed by the Task Force on Apprenticeship Expansion, which was established by the White House in 2017.

“These programs have the potential to grow into a critical and successful component of America’s workforce strategy, but are currently underutilized,” the report states.
